Marshall Kirkpatrick offers up three reasons why you should opt into the new Delicious data transfer. Preserve your own tags. Preserve the system of classification, the taxonomy and the tags per URL. The hope that new things will be born.

Three Reasons Why Seesmic Desktop Is A Dream...
It integrates every user’s Klout score along with three descriptive tags. In less than a few seconds, I get a basic overview of any user. Lists appear to run much smoother than TweetDeck. New tweets flow nicely. I can see actions taken on my tweets and account through the “Activities” panel. It makes it incredibly simple to identify and engage with followers.

Amazon Launches Library Lending For Kindle Books →
Over 11,000 libraries in the US will have Kindle books available to check out later on this year, according to a press release by Amazon today. If you like to read and have at least one mobile device that has Amazon Kindle functionality, you will be able to check out this content. A cool part is the ability to take private notes in the book, typically seen as a negative for print content that...

Google Puts Map Editing In The Hands Of The User →
Today, Google launched Google Map Maker, which allows users to create and/or edit Google Maps. Jason Kincaid provides some insight into why Google Map Maker launched in the US: Lalitesh Katragadda and Manik Gupta, who lead the product, say that the tool can be used to give a greater level of detail to Google Maps in the US. We’ll now be able to edit (and access) more detailed maps of...

iPhone vs. Android: SAI Attempts To Settle The... →
Business Insider recently published results from their massive smartphone survey, which polled over 2,000 people. Some of the most interesting findings: Most participants say “features” and “platform” are the most important factors when choosing a smartphone. App selection is also important, but not as important as most people think. Most Android users say they...

Kindergartners Receive iPad 2s From School... →
The idea began when teachers who owned iPad noticed a significant improvement in kindergartners — who had previously had trouble learning the alphabet — who were exposed to educational software on the iPad. I would love to be a youngster in Auburn, Maine. Kindergartners and teachers received 285 iPad 2s for classroom use. The goal? To raise the literacy rate from 62% to 90% within...

Google News Founder On The New York Times' Paywall →
“In theory, it’s a very good model — because what it’s trying to do is to say, ‘If you’re a big fan, I’ll charge you; for everybody else, the long tail of users who are casual snackers, I’ll still make money on them by showing them ads.’ It’s a very pragmatic approach.” First, big fans could actually think and use one of these seven ways to get around the paywall. Second, has anyone...

Uber Private Driving Service Hits NYC →
Uber, a company that helps people locate and order private rides, soft-launched in NYC today. Previously, it had only been running in Palo Alto and San Francisco. But man, it is still expensive. According to Erick Schonfeld, it cost him $15 to go 20 blocks in NYC. Or as he qualifies, about twice as much as you’d pay for a regular cab. In a city with an immense number of cabs, I doubt this...

Don't Compare The Motorola Xoom With The iPad 2... →
Four handicaps that make iPad 2 comparisons unrealistic, according to Joe Wilcox. 1. For most of its sales life, XOOM has been attached to Verizon — first sold unsubsidized for $800. XOOM costs more than the comparable iPad 2. 2. Lower Verizon pricing came later, $600, but with 2-year data commitment. Apple doesn’t require AT&T or Verizon data contracts for iPad. 3. Still...

Twitter Adds Interest-Search Functionality →
You have interests, I have interests. Now we can search for the topics we are most interested in on Twitter Search, which was given new functionality yesterday. But is it enough? Even with advanced operators, finding new users to follow is still somewhat of a tedious process. For a website with a large userbase and thousands of tweets a minute, it’s time to step up and add search operators...

On AOL Acquisitions →
The new gadget site may not fly, of course. But there is still a lesson here for AOL: while it’s nice to dine out on the latest shiny acquisition, you have to get down to the hard work of making sure it succeeds for the long haul. AOL has found a way to acquire what it cannot build, but it still hasn’t found a way to hang on to what it has. Tonight I read David Carr’s final thoughts in...

Some Students Pay To Acquire Internships →
To meet the credit requirement of their employers, some interns have essentially had to pay to work for free: shelling out $2,700 to the University of Pennsylvania in the case of an intern at NBC Universal and $1,600 to New York University by an intern at “The Daily Show,” to cite two examples from news reports. There is something inherently wrong with the American internship system when...

RUWT: Sports Site Rates Games You Should Be... →
Now that baseball season has started back up, it’s tough to keep track of what is going on when multiple games are being played. RUWT to the rescue. The website ranks games live based on their “roots” system. A quick scan of root count shows how popular and how exciting certain games are. So while you may not know exactly what is going on, you’ll be able to flip to the...
