The access Union Metrics has to the Tumblr data firehouse allows it to chart just how that post spread through the Tumblr ecosystem, identifying the users who played the biggest role in amplifying its reach. This is what that looks like, visualized:

It’s worth noting that this level of detail is only available on Tumblr, not Twitter, whose data doesn’t allow for tracing back the chain of an individual retweet… Being able to target the individual users whose assistance in getting a message to go viral would be most valuable — that’s the kind of surgical marketing brands dream of.

Great visualization, and yes, Tumblr can be a marketer’s dream.

Changes Abound

After extensive thought about a week of thought, I’ve decided to change up my Tumblr approach.

I’ve renamed this blog, formally known as Forr Kicks!, to forrestkoba. It will continue to serve up technology commentary and awesome shares — hopefully in higher aggregate volume than the first four months of 2012.

And because I have an urge to start sharing more baseball-and-sports-related content, I’ve started up a new place specifically for that content: ballmeme. It has all of zero posts right now, but expect that to change very soon. As a lifelong sports fan, it’s overdue for me to contribute and make a mark in the sports blogosphere, so this is my step towards accomplishing that.

What Is Shared On Google+ Can Also Be Shared On Tumblr.

I’ve found that a lot of the content that I would normally share on Tumblr, I’ve opted to share on Google+. It makes sense, though — while the platforms are set up very different, the type of content I share on each is remarkably similar.

Christina Warren put it best when she described it as “LiveJournal Meets Tumblr”. There’s some interesting discussion over there, so check out the thread if you haven’t read it already.

It will be interesting to see if the number of Tumblr posts fall when Google+ opens up to the general public. 

A New Look

Spent some time tonight tweaking my new theme for my Tumblr blog. In case you’re wondering, it’s the Scaffold Theme, available here.

It took me a while to pick out a new theme, as I knew I wanted a premium one and have been pondering my options carefully. Here it is. I’m very excited about the selection and know that it’s another step towards establishing my online presence through a new outlet.

Not too long ago, I had a Wordpress blog up at forrestkobayashi.com.

I deleted it.

For the time being, I’ve set up my flavors.me account as a landing page, so for my stalkers out there, you can find me all around the interwebz.

As for exactly why I deleted my Wordpress blog, that is another story. I’ll fill you in (eventually) on my thought process behind deleting 40+ posts in the blink of an eye.

Until then, enjoy the new look and let me know if there is anything that can be improved in terms of design or functionality.
